How to check spelling and grammar
Passages in an English language and Markdown notes are checked as you type, by Harper. A passage in another language is not checked, and neither is the Python in a passage. The checking happens on your machine: nothing you write is sent anywhere to be checked.
The colour of an underline says what it found: red for spelling, amber for grammar, blue for style.
Take a suggestion
Section titled “Take a suggestion”- Right-click the underlined words, or put the caret in them and press Ctrl+. (⌘. on a Mac).
- Pick a suggestion. It replaces the underlined words.
The line at the top of the menu is the checker’s explanation, in English as the checker wrote it. Ignore stops underlining that one until the project is closed.
Teach the project a word
Section titled “Teach the project a word”On a spelling underline, choose Add to dictionary in the same menu. The word stops being underlined everywhere in the project.
Names the project already has are words without being added: its files’ names, its console variables, its host callbacks and its state machines’ states.
See or change the dictionary
Section titled “See or change the dictionary”- Open Project settings from the bottom of the activity bar and pick Writing.
- Under Dictionary, type a word in Add a word and press Enter or choose Add. One word at a time: a phrase with a space is refused.
- Use Find a word to search the list, and the bin beside a word to take it out.
- Save. Cancel puts every word back.
The dictionary is saved with the project, so everyone who opens it shares it. A dictionary saved by a newer version of the app is not shown or changed: update the app to edit it.
Switch checking off
Section titled “Switch checking off”- Press the gear in the app bar. The Settings dialog opens.
- On the General page, set Writing to Off.
The command palette’s Toggle spelling and grammar does the same. The words in a project’s dictionary are kept.
