How to save and resume a playthrough

Saving does not end the playthrough, and you can save as many times as you like.

  1. In the campaign window, select the bookmark in the header.
  2. Type a name in the Save this playthrough dialog. Save stays unavailable until the name is not empty.
  3. Select Save. The app reports Saved as “name”. and the playthrough carries on.

Put a playthrough down and pick it up again

Select Pause in the campaign window to put a playthrough down. Pausing writes an automatic save into the project’s .ripple/saves/, listed as Where you left off in the same list as your named saves and rewritten each time you pause. How to play and test a campaign covers pausing and resuming.

Pausing and resuming in the same sitting hands you back the board you just edited. A save opened later is checked against the story as it is then, which is why one can be refused.

  1. Select the bookmark beside Play, or run Open a saved game… from the command palette.
  2. Pick a save. The list shows the passage each is waiting at and how long ago it was written.
  3. If a playthrough is running, the app asks Open this saved game? Opening a save throws the running campaign away, so save that playthrough first if you want it back.
  4. Select Open.

A save records your place and everything the story has made. The campaign window and saved games lists what it holds, and How a story runs explains how choice counts and macros behave.

A save records a place in a board. If the story has been rewritten since and that place no longer exists, the save is listed with the reason beside it and left alone. Open another save, or start a new playthrough and save that.

A build older than yours refuses a newer save rather than put a json variable back to its default. Update the app to open it.

Saves are left out of version control.
